The historic centre of Vienna is rich in beautiful architecture, including Baroque castles and gardens, as well as the late-19th-century Ringstrasse lined with grand buildings, monuments and parks.
I really liked the area around the Stephansdom with all the great shops, cafes and restaurants. We were there on a Sunday evening and came across a fun little market with local crafts and candy. Very pleasant to walk around!
We had a tour partly by bus and partly walking. There is a lot to see and we decided we need to back for a longer stay (3 or 4 days). The palace area and gardens are stunning and extensive (don’t miss the rose gardens - toilets here but you have to pay 50 Flrs) You can get a glimpse of some of the Spanish Riding School horses in their stables. There are lots of famous shops and cafes to try local delicacies and the architecture is varied, colourful and historic. St Stephens is a highlight with its beautiful ceramic roof and lofty towers with delicate gothic decoration.
